  • Variations on a Scam

Ran across a new spin on a way to make money off aspiring writers. A "NY Publisher" with the initials MJ -- their contract requires the authors they "publish" to buy 2500 copies of the book at a discount off retail.
They claim most large publishers require that. THEY DON'T.

With legitimate publishers, money flows from the publisher to the writer. These vanity houses give you a larger percentage because they have very little skin in the game. When a legitimate publisher takes on a book, they cover all costs. That's why you get a smaller percentage. Reward follows investment of money.

I just hate the people who prey on the hopeful.

THE SINGLE BEST PATH TO GETTING A LEGITIMATE PUBLISHER IS TO WRITE WELL.
